LCD TVs utilize non-emissive technologies combined with fluorescent tubes to produce their crisp and clear images.  Non-emissive technologies do not create radiation. They do not create the light, but absorb or block light from a separate light source. LCD TV technology enables sets to not only project beautiful pictures, but also perform better at high altitudes.  They are also considerably lighter and more portable than plasma televisions.

LCD TVs use crystals suspended in a liquid.  Since liquid crystals can transmit and alter polarized light, the crystal solution is placed between two pieces of polarized glass. When electrical current and light are added, the structure of the crystals is changed, subsequently shifting the angle of the light passing through them.

LCD TVs work with Active Matrix technology, which utilizes tiny transistors and capacitors. The transistors and capacitors act as shutters causing each light pixel to get brighter or darker.  This technology enables LCD TVs to offer a superb gray scale.

In order to get the vibrant color that LCD TVs provide, each sub pixel is controlled independently to produce colors from each pixel. This allows LCD to provide color-saturated images without using as much electricity as plasma televisions.
